Nduta Mochai
48:52
Is Malcolm X accusing MLK here of corruption or embezzlement of funds? I didn't quite understand it.
Nduta Mochai
51:11
Who is the shrewd fox? Is he calling MLK "Tom"?
Nduta Mochai
52:19
Who are Wilkins and Randolph?
Clyde Ledbetter
52:30
I’ll explain
Nduta Mochai
54:12
There seems to be a lot of resentment, almost hatred, and definitely anger from Malcolm towards MLK.
Gina Leslie
01:00:02
what was the name of the white philanthropist?
Gina Leslie
01:00:05
didn’t catch it
Gina Leslie
01:14:34
It’s also very instructive that ‘White philanthropy’ was used then as a means of controlling the movement. We still see that today in any movement that tries to dismantle established systems that keep any kind of minorities down
Elaine
01:15:37
Gina so true - example the school system focus on diversity as a oppose to equity
Madeleine
01:18:16
Was it to water down the movement or to shift the focus?
Kusum Wijesekera
01:18:27
If you don't have access to the book Gina is talking about here's a link to Anan discussing it https://www.filmsforaction.org/watch/anand-giridharadas-on-winners-take-all-and-the-charade-of-elite-philanthropy/
Rachel Decoste
01:27:33
I am surprised that Malcolm said that about JFK.
Elaine
01:29:36
As President, didn't JFK kept delaying on signing the civil rights act? Question, what did JFK do for black people as President?
Rachel Decoste
01:30:48
I do not believe JFK did anything for Black people. And anything he did do was because he had no choice. But I guess the bar was so low that JFK sounded like a saint compared to the overt racists.
Elaine
01:31:20
True Rachel...….
anemnu
01:31:23
I’ve heard recorded phone conversations b/w the two of them
Rachel Decoste
01:32:21
The Civil Rights Act was passed because LBJ was painted into a corner. LBJ was no friend of the Black community. At LBJ's presidential library, they take credit for Obama's presidency by saying "if LBJ hadn't passed the civil rights act, obama couldn't have become president".
Rachel Decoste
01:32:29
Whatever.
Elaine
01:33:53
So true - thinking about Biden also
